Me and Gaelen went to Seattle yesterday, to fulfill the road trip that was supposed to have happened on the 14th with Drew and Jeremy (but due to complications we ended up going to Bellingham instead, no biggie). It was SO fun! There are about 80-90 pics on my facebook profile and I also took a video (*which you can view on the newly updated videos page*). Or you can visit all my videos by going straight to Youtube. Anyshit.

It was a glorious time, I spent lots of money, bought some really nice hand-crafted things that you can’t get anywhere else but Pike Place Market. Saw the first starbucks, took pics at the Space Needle, and paid a visit to EMP.

Hmm.. I want to make a new video or six tonight to post on Youtube but I still cannot think of what.

You know you’ve been a little too drunk when…

…You dump out the contents of your purse and find last night’s drink menu from the bar.

And I really only had about a drink and a half. I couldn’t finish my martini because I was starting to feel really sick (like stomach cramps) after eating and stuff. I am going to go to the doc and get myself checked out again because I’m just scared its something serious like IBS or Chrons or some horrible crap. Anyhoo.

Yesterday was amazing. Drew picked me up, we left at about 12 and headed to go get Jeremy from his house. The border wait going down was kinda crappy, the signs warned that it was about a 60-minute wait but it was probably less, maybe 40-45. Anyways it was fun because I got to take pictures!

The pictures weren’t all of me, I swear. You can see them all by going to my facebook profile.

Finally the road trip I’ve been hoping for!

I’m going to Seattle on Friday to see Valient Thorr, one of the best live shows when it comes to seeing rock bands play small-ish venues. I’ve seen them twice at the Warped Tour and now they’re playing a show at El Corazon), which is where I always go to see bands play in Seattle (and this time around I’ll finally be able to order alcohol!!). I’m more than stoked. I’ve been wanting to go on a road trip, or camping, or for God’s sake SOMETHING fun before the summer comes to a complete grinding halt (it’s still sunny enough now that I can wear tank tops and capri pants and work up a good sweat when i’m out and about). I am SO HAPPY for this.

Another new semester and a new site to go with it

….And now that I’ve got more time on my hands, Blue-Ruin is BACK and better than ever! Wordpress is yes, and I’m familiarizing myself with the ins and outs of it.

This fall I’m taking four courses, fourteen credits in total. Here’s what I’m taking:

CMNS 310 - Media and Modernity
An examination of the development of communication theory in western social thought from the eighteenth century to the early twentieth century. Discussion is focused around a series of debates about the changing nature of human communication in modernity with specific reference to the rise of modern mass media. Topics discussed include the so-called growth of mass society in modernity; the emergence of Marxism; the origins of modern linguistics; and the rise and reformation of behavioural approaches to communication research.

CMNS 425 - Applied Communication for Social Issues
An advanced seminar in applied communication that focuses on the research and strategic design of media messages, campaigns and programs for public awareness, education, and social change. This course involves the application of theories and approaches in critical media analysis to the tasks of media design and media use for public understanding, engagement and participation around social issues.

REM 100 - Global Change
This course provides students with an overview of global environmental change and its causes from a social science perspective, historically and at the present time. Population growth, an increasing ecological footprint and changes in ideology, social organization, economy and technology will be critically reviewed. New ways of thinking in natural and social science will be considered in relation to specific issues such as land, soil and food; energy, raw materials and solid waste; air pollution and transportation; water, oceans and fisheries; climate change; forestry and biodiversity; urbanization, and alternative futures.

SA 101 - Introduction to Anthropology
An introduction to the study of human social and cultural life from an anthropological perspective. The course will explore the scope and nature of the discipline of anthropology through study of selected cases drawn from both technologically simple communities and complex modern industrial societies

The two first-year classes are requirements that I need to take in order to graduate (REM counts as a science credit and SA is a pre-requisite for a Sociology research methods class I need). And I chose to take CMNS 310 + 425 because the are just interesting to me. So yeah, thats my semester. A nice mix of challenging and easy stuff.
